How can I do a self tarot card reading?
I have a tarot deck, and I know how to do a horse shoe spread, and the celtic cross. I want to do a reading on myself, but I just don't know how to go about it.

- Well, I think one of the best newer ways to learn the meanings of the cards, is to go to facade dot com and try out their free tarot readings. Do this each day, and you'll start learning the cards. If they don't have your specific deck, do it with the Waite deck, as it relates to almost all modern decks.
- That's easy. Use the card that most represents yourself as the Significator and read it like you would anyone else. Of course you'd be the one askng the question, shuffling the deck and cutting the cards as well as doing the lay out.
- It's often hard to be objective when reading for yourself. Try to look at it as if you were reading for someone else, so that your own emotions, doubts, etc. don't get in your way. Perhaps you may want to start with doing simple three card spreads for yourself a few times a week, recording your interpretations of them and see how that goes - how accurate they are for you. There is a lot to reading a Celtic cross spread as a whole, and I have a hard time doing that spread for myself sometimes. Here is an article & website that may help you. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/learn/simple_tarot_reading.shtml
- all of the previous answers are good. if the cards seem unclear, you might try using runes or even a bit of chiromancy just in case
- Honestly I think the best way to go about things is to not use cards and just find every answer insie of you. You may think it sounds dumb but if you start with tarot it will be hard for you to do it withut tarot as opposed to starting without tarot!

- Hey! Well, I too am new at Tarot. I started back in March; compared to others, I'm new. The best thing to do is find out the card meanings. You can find wonderful sites online that will help you, but I still prefer books. You can go to Borders and pick up some books. My first book was "Tarot for Beginners" by P. Scott Hollander. I found this book very easy to use. It can go in-depth, but yet you can flip to the card you're on and read the meanings for it (even for reversed cards!). You can also try reading intuitively; that's basically looking at the cards and going with your gut feeling. Or, you can do a little of both. Keep a journal to write down how you see certain cards and you can also use it to keep Spreads in and readings that you have done for yourself. I'd like to suggest the site www.tarotforum.net which is a wonderful community. I joined it when I started out in Tarot and I love it so much! My username there is MistressNatasha in case you were wondering. =P Anyway, find some Spreads (that site has plenty!), get the meanings for the cards, and just read away! Shuffle well, though. You can "set the mood" by lighting a candle, dimming the lights, using a cloth to lay the cards on, and other things! Make sure to clear your mind of all burdens. Sometimes it's hard to read for yourself because it's hard to accept the truth. So make sure to be true to yourself. You may not care for it (since I've only been reading for a little over half a year) but I would love to help you if you find yourself stuck. Good luck and have fun! =] ~Natasha, The Garrulous Lady
